Frequently asked questions
How soon should I make an appointment with my newborn?
We recommend that your baby’s first visit, which includes checking their weight, takes place within two days of leaving the hospital.
Can I meet my pediatrician before my newborn arrives?
Yes! We know choosing your baby’s first pediatrician is a big decision. We’re here to make it as easy as possible to see if Bluebird Kids Health is right for you. If you’re in the Jacksonville area, we invite you to attend one of our Meet and Greet nights for Expecting Parents!
And if you’re in Palm Beach County or Broward County, you can call our office to schedule a visit with the pediatrician of your choice or ask for a recommendation on one available in your desired location. We will need the baby’s due date and your insurance to schedule the visit.
What information should I expect to review at my newborn’s first visit?
Your newborn’s first visit will include a physical examination, weight check and some discussion of your family history. And if you’re in Palm Beach County or Broward County, you can also call our office to schedule a visit with the pediatrician of your choice or ask for a recommendation on one available in your desired location. You’ll have an opportunity to tour the office, meet our pediatricians, and learn about the first visit in much more detail.
When does my baby receive their first vaccines?
We believe in the safety and efficacy of vaccines at Bluebird Kids Health. For that reason, we follow the CDC’s vaccine guidelines. After your newborn’s first Hepatitis B vaccine (which is typically giving in the hospital after birth), the series starts at 2 months old. We practice shared decision making with parents so we can answer any questions you have regarding this vital component of preventative medicine that keeps your child healthy.
Do you have Beyfortus® (the RSV Antibody) vaccine?
Yes, we have the Beyfortus® (RSV Antibody) injection available for newborns under 8 months old. Pregnant women can get the RSV vaccine between 32-36 weeks of pregnancy. This is an alternative to giving your child the vaccine. We recommend discussing the option with your obstetrician.
What should I bring to my child’s first appointment?
If your child is a newborn, please bring their hospital discharge papers and any vaccination records. We also recommend packing a few items to help keep your baby comfortable, like a blanket, pacifier, or extra diapers (see a few more tips here). For older children, bring any health records or vaccination history you have on hand.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept a wide range of insurance plans, including Medicaid. Our services are billed through your insurance. You will be responsible for the deductibles and co-pays outlined in your policy.
